ÔTRE K’ OTRE

An installation by Kristin ROGGHE and Matthias DE GROOF.

The (working) title of Ôtre k’Ôtre is obscure and opaque at first sight. The word pictures are strange and unfamiliar to the eye. But when reading the title aloud we hear ourselves saying ‘Autre qu’Autre’ - which, paradoxically enough, is instantly much more recognisable. In this way the title reflects the duality in our own experience of working with Congolese artists, and the tension between diversity and identity that we inevitably create when showing a few black ‘characters’ to a white public. Through their shared histories, the relationship between Belgium and Congo in particular is one of both familiarity and surprise.

During the AFF in ‘het Stuk’ (Reception Area), Naamsestraat, 3000 Leuven

Preview on Saturday 12 April at 7.30 pm - Reception at Stuk.
