MISSION STATEMENT:MORE AFRICAN FILMS IN THEATRES AND OTHER MEDIA
Few
African films are shown in our theatres. The main purpose of the AFF is to
ensure that these quality films can be viewed in the regular theatre circuit or
on television. Therefore, organising an event or festival is a means to this
purpose.
Our non profit organisation wishes to construct a circuit which offers a
financial guarantee to the divers distributors the AFF co-operates with. This
circuit is currently incomplete but does form the basis of a larger circuit in
Flanders/Belgium. Our aim is to guarantee at least 50 screenings so that a distributor
can launch an African movie without great financial risk (obtaining of the
rights, bi-lingual subtitling of a new copy...)
Ideally the AFF wishes to ensure that, in every town in Flanders, several
African films are shown at least once every year.
In the future the festival will expand more and more over the whole of
Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. If the Benelux distribution rights of the films
allow it, our non profit organisation will also expand to the Netherlands and
Luxemburg where we have good contacts.
STRATEGIC GOALS
1. The building of a worthy film festival in Leuven and a circuit in the
province of Flemish Brabant that can play an important role in film happenings
in Flanders and Belgium.
2. More and better promotion for African films and culture in
Belgium.
3. More African films in Belgian distribution.
4. A larger audience for African movies.
5. To stimulate the debate about film in Africa and the effect of
globalisation on movie production and distribution in general.
6. To launch and/or support projects on the African continent.
7. To stimulate an inter-cultural dialogue.
