A DRY WHITE SEASON

South Africa, 1976. Ben du Toit, a history teacher in Johannesburg, is a right-thinking Afrikaner. Gordon Ngubene, his black gardener, is a humble man who has always been resigned to the injustices of apartheid. One summer’s day, Gordon’s son Jonathan joins a peaceful protest against racial discrimination by thousands of Soweto school students. The police arrest many demonstrators, including Jonathan. When Jonathan goes missing, a worried Gordon asks Ben to help him. They are initially given the cold shoulder, but with the help of a famous anti-apartheid lawyer they hear from the authorities that Jonathan died during the demonstration.
