Diaspora in focus: Belgian Shorts (blok 2)

In two programmes, eight short films were selected in the Diaspora in Focus competition. This competition celebrates Afro-Belgian talent and offers a platform to young Belgian filmmakers with African roots. The jury will announce the winner at the Awards Evening on 5 May and will receive a prize of €500, donated by the Africa Museum.

BRUSSELS, POETIC EXPRESSION

This Poetic documentary narrates the story of Brussels through the mother's perspective (Brussels) with a focus on its statutes and also its colonial past with a visit to the Africa Museum in Tervuren.

SAINT LOUIS ON THE MOVE

Saint Louis On The Move is a fascinating short film which explores the rhythm of daily life in the city. Creative and compelling dance by the two featured dancers from the Senegalese contemporary dance company Diagn’art. The film embodies and reflects the energy, pulse and vibrant colours of  Saint Louis as the dancers guide us through this dynamic city.

PLAN I

“Plan-I” is by no means a scripted reality, but narrates the story of the documentary maker. Ak Simba bursts the bubble filled with (des-) illusions about integration from the perspective of the migrants, as well as the natives. Discarding all half-baked stories about migration, it offers the viewer a look into the often harsh reality of the integration process as it is. A must watch documentary for all!
