Fantasmas do Império (Ghosts of an Empire)

Fantasmas do Império crosses a century of Portuguese cinema, in which colonialism has been approached both from a fictional and a documentary perspective. Films that support the imperialist plot are contrasted with contemporary films. Seven Portuguese filmmakers go into dialogue with two actors to uncover the myths of ‘the other’, the ‘colonized’. A reflection on how colonialism and decolonization were recorded in film and how the ghosts of the past persist even today, in cinema, in culture, in society.
