JE CHANTERAI POUR TOI

The film tells the story of a Malian guitarist, Boubakar Traoré, the black Elvis Presley. In the early sixties, he sung about the blessings of Malian independence. The local radio played songs like the 'Mali twist' and ‘Kayes-Ba’ that encouraged the locals to roll up their sleeves and persuaded Malian immigrants to come home to help reconstruct the country. The coup d'état in 1968 put an end to the illusion of independence. Boubakar then emigrated to Paris to have a chance of survival. Twenty years later, he made his come back. The story of his life and music takes the audience through a piece of the history of Mali and all of Africa.
