La Sirène de Faso Fani

Spoken: French/Mooré. Subtitles: Dutch.

The Siren of Faso Fani explores the disastrous consequences of global economic policies that are blind to local realities. In 2001, the shutdown of the famous cotton factory in Burkina Faso put hundreds out of work, plunging thousands into poverty. A decade after this economic and social disaster, Michel K. Zongo returns to Koudougou and to the factory that was so central in his childhood. Stripped of their livelihood and of their pride, the former workers remain convinced that reviving the cotton industry can offer a viable future.
