La Vie est Belle
La Vie Est Belle takes us inside the vibrant music scene of Kinshasha. The film stars Papa Wemba, one of the legendary figures of world music. It concentrates on archetypes such as the charming trickster, the impotent husband, the neglected wife in a rags-to-riches story of a poor rural musician who finally gets his big break on television. This lively farce illustrates faith in the mythic ‘Article 15’ of the constitution of the dictator Mobutu. Mobutu's constitution had 14 articles; ‘Et pour tout les reste, on se débrouille’.
