Making Men

Immerse yourself in the rhythmic world of afro-contemporary dance in multidisciplinary dance performance Making Men.

This dance performance is a powerful, yet subtle contemporary expression of what it is to be a man.
Preceded by a short dance film and followed by a discussion.

“One is not born a man, one becomes a man.” -Erasmus

Making Men explores the meaning of masculinity. Four African dancers explore this theme through a strong, rhythmic choreography that also highlights softness and sensitivity. Can the failure to conform to the male stereotype and the role imposed on men lead to the discomfort and violence in young men that we witness in many societies today?

Are they free to be who they want to be, or are they pushed into a box? Four dancers, who are still in full development, investigate this theme. They try to understand themselves better by expressing their doubts and questioning themselves. Through dance and Afro-contemporary choreography they express themselves and try to break free from the invisible chains, in order to find their true nature.

This dance attempts to emphasize the boundaries of the male stereotype for those who want to experience all facets of human emotions.
