Spoken: Lingala. Subtitles: English.
Voice: Maravilha Munto
The film Under the white mask is a new montage of the colonial art documentary Under the black mask by the Belgian Paul Haesaerts, whose film from 1958 was about Congolese art objects. In the reworking, De Groof gives a voice in Lingala to the sculptures, using the words of 1955 of the poet, thinker, and politician Aimé Césaire. According to him, Under the white mask is the film that Haesaerts could have made.
