PALJAS

The McDonald family lives in a deserted train station. Once they were prosperous, now father Hendrik, mother Katrien and their children Emma and Willem waste away in a deserted one horse town where a visit from the neighbours is considered to be a major sensation. Willem even stopped talking at the age of 15, and ever since nobody has succeeded in finding means to break his eternal silence. But things change when the circus is in town. The clown of the circus is sick of travelling and decides to stay. He gets Willem out of his isolation. The family is happy, but simultaneously the inhabitants of a neighbouring village grow ever more suspicious. They start a real witch-hunt, in which first the clown and later the entire family are targeted.
