In Shadow World, the filmmaker Johan Grimonprez gives us an inside into the multi-billion dollar international arms trade, where profit is more important than human lives. In the aftermath of every war, there are rumors of bribery, conflict of interest and unethical profit. A shadowy world of arms traders, corruption, greed, kickback and backroom politics. But also of secret services, military commanders, politicians and world leaders whose moral compasses have become twisted. Their only interest seems to be to make the war last as long as possible in order to earn as much money as possible. On the basis of testimonials from journalists, arms dealers, lobbyists and politicians, the documentary Shadow World shows how the international arms trade poses a threat to democracy. Not only in the countries where the weapons are used, but also in the West where they are made.
