Têtes brûlées

The world of 12-year-old Eya from Brussels collapses when her older brother Younes suddenly passes away. While going through an intense period of mourning, she seeks comfort in religion, rituals, and the closeness of friends and family. With the necessary creativity and a great deal of resilience, she must try to come to terms with this immense loss.

‘Têtes brûlées’ is the feature film debut of Belgian-Tunisian director Maja Ajmia Yde Zellama. With this understated drama, she tells a tender coming-of-age story about grief, faith, and solidarity within a multicultural community. The film had its world premiere in the Generation-14plus section at the Berlin Film Festival, where it received two Special Mentions from the jury.
