The Revolution Won't Be Televised

Spoken: Wolof/French. Subtitels: English.

In 2011, when the Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade wanted to run for office yet again, a youth resistance movement formed on the streets. From it emerged the now infamous ‘Y’en a marre’ (‘We Are Fed Up’), founded by a group of school friends, including the popular rappers Thiat, Kilifeu and Gadiaga.  Filmmaker Rama Thiaw soon joined the movement to document its progress from an insider's perspective, observing the meetings, protests, concerts, arrests and sheer hard work that eventually led to Wade’s demise. A film about a country in the grip of change, in which two thirds of the population are under 25 and long for new beginnings.
