The Village of Kenou

The film paints a portrait of a traditional community in Benin, where the ancient voodoo culture is still very important. Tassi is the oldest inhabitant of the village and also the priestess who maintains contact with the ancestors on behalf of the community. Tassi takes the audience into her world, where her ancestors are naturally present and must always be consulted via the oracle for taking important decisions.

Five films were nominated for the Africa Film Festival 2023 Prize of the Flemish UNESCO Commission on the theme of Intangible Heritage. This is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Preserving intangible heritage can contribute to strengthening cultural identity, social cohesion of communities and promoting sustainable development. It can also promote other SDGs, such as quality education and Peace and Justice.
