Timbuktu
Not so far from Timbuktu, now in the hands of religious fundamentalists, Kidane lives peacefully in de dunes with his wife Satima, his daughter Toya and Issan, a 12-year-old shepherd.
In the city, people suffer under the terror regime of the Jihadists. Music, laughter, cigarettes and even football are now forbidden. The women have become shadows of themselves, but withstand with dignity. Every day the improvised tribunal enounces absurd and tragic convictions.
Kidane and his family have been spared the chaos of Timbuktu. But their fate changes when Kidane accidentally kills the fisherman Amadou. Amadou had killed the beloved cow of Kidane. Kidane is now subject to the new laws of the occupiers.
