Algeria 1957. In a small village, seven fighters have been captured by the French army. For seven days, the bell will ring once each day and a combatant will be executed. Bound and with a hood over their heads, they will not know their identity once they’re dead. Louisa, one of the villagers, fears that her husband is one of the seven prisoners. The next day, the bell rings.

A young "Garibou" named Baillo begs every day on behalf of his caretaker, the Moualim. In the evening, the Moualim imposes terror over Baillo and the other children of the Koranic school. But when his younger brother Sékou is placed with the Moualim, nothing can turn him away from the unbearable reality of their condition.

Over YAFMA

10de editie van de kortfilmcompetitie YAFMA’s! De jaarlijkse Guido Huysmans Young African Film Makers Award (YAFMA) ondersteunt nieuw Afrikaans talent. De competitie wil de vinger aan de pols houden met verhalen van jonge filmmakers uit Afrika. Guido Huysmans, medeoprichter van AFF, overleed in de zomer van 2014 na een reis door Afrika, waar hij precies op zoek was naar deze jonge filmmakers. Uit de meer dan 2000 inzendingen werden 20 kortfilms geselecteerd. Ze worden vertoond in het M Leuven.
